How ChatEngram works
ChatEngram saves AI conversations automatically and keeps them searchable later, without changing how you chat.
Here is the workflow from first install to a long-term, searchable archive.
1. Install - start in seconds
- Add ChatEngram from the Chrome Web Store
- Pin the extension for quick access
- No account required to start
- Works quietly in the background
Design principle: You should not need to manage ChatEngram. It should fit your existing workflow.
If you choose Pro or Lifetime, you will sign in on chatengram.com so the extension can detect your plan. Your conversations remain stored locally on your device by default.
2. Capture - chat normally
ChatEngram automatically detects and records conversations from supported web UIs, including:
- ChatGPT
- DeepSeek
- Claude
- Gemini
- Perplexity
- Grok
Behind the scenes:
ChatEngram watches for message blocks in the page, cleans formatting, identifies roles (user/assistant), and stores everything locally in a structured format.
No manual export. Your archive grows automatically.
3. Index - build a searchable archive
As each conversation is captured, ChatEngram:
- normalizes text
- extracts metadata
- stores clean Markdown + raw text
- builds a search index
This gives you:
- instant recall
- a stable archive
- cross-platform history
- a long-term knowledge base
4. Search - recall anything
Press Cmd/Ctrl + K from anywhere.
Use Spotlight to:
- search across conversations
- jump directly into any chat
- filter by platform, date, or keyword
- retrieve old code, reasoning, prompts, or decisions
5. Sync - connect to your tools (optional)
If you want your archive outside the extension, ChatEngram can sync conversations to:
- Obsidian (local Markdown folder)
- Notion (cloud API)
- Google Drive / OneDrive (local sync folder)
Each conversation is saved as:
- Markdown
- neatly formatted
- easy to archive or version
